Welcome Friends! Today I’m featuring cards from the May 2020 Hero Arts Monthly Card Kit.  I received this kit in the mail last week. It's currently still available.

Cards #1&2: Happy Mailbox – featured in the unboxing video
Watch the video to see how I made the mailbox shape.  The card fits nicely into an A2 envelope.

Card#3: Sending Sunshine & Love
This A2 card features the two sun images and one of the flowers from the kit.  I used the My Favorite Things Die-Namics Wonky Frames die set.  I used Nuvo White Blizzard glitter drops to add sparkle and shine.

Card#4: Happy Independence Day
This A2 card features a sunburst die-cut panel and paper-piecing technique. I used two distress oxide inks and a blending brush I placed festive berries red in the top left corner and add chipped sapphire to the top right corner. Then I moved to the bottom left with chipped sapphire and to the right bottom with festive berries again.  I blended them where they met.

Watch the video for the detailed techniques for creating each of these cards. That’s it for today! I’ll be back soon with more inspiration using this kit! Leave your questions and comments below.

Until next time. Good day friends!

Father’s Day 2020 Card

Hello Friends! Happy Juneteenth!  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. President Lincoln signed and enacted the Emancipation Proclamation January 1, 1863.  However, certain states, Texas being one of them, did not head the proclamation and slaves did not know that they were free until two and a half years later. It is said that Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 announcing that the Civil War had ended and that slaves were now free.  The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery. Read more at Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth and Juneteenth https://www.juneteenth.com/history.htm.

Now, let’s talk Father’s Day cards.  This year I made slimline cards using Nuvo shimmer powders.  These were the easiest.  I made the backgrounds at the same time I made the backgrounds for my Mother’s Day cards last month.

Here’s what I used:

*Nuvo Shimmer Powders: Storm Cloud & Blue Blitz
*Card base, 110 lb black cardstock
*Card panel layer, 65 lb grey cardstock
*Card panel, Canson XL watercolor paper
      * Sentiment, designed and printed but die-cut using stitched banner dies from Gina Marie Designs
      *Water spray bottle
      *Double-sided Tape

Background: I first randomly applied the shimmer powders to the dry watercolor paper, alternating the colors throughout. Then I generously sprayed the entire panel with water and moved the paper around gently so that the colors would mix across entire panel.  I soaked up excess water with a paper towel.  Once dry, I applied a second layer of powders and repeated the process to get a richer more masculine mesh of colors.  After the background dried I cut the panels to 3¼” x 7¾” and mounted them to the grey panel layer (measured 3½” x 8”) and mounted that to the black card base that measures 3¾” x 8½” when folded. To finish off the card I affixed the sentiment banner.  Next, I made custom black slimline envelopes that measured 4” x 8¾”.

I made several cards so that my husband could send them to close male relatives. Did you make a Father’s Day card?  If so, let me know what you designed?

That’s it for today! I’ll be back soon with more inspiration! Leave questions and comments below.

Until next time. Good day friends!

Hero Arts ~ MMH KIT ~ APRIL 2020 - Australian Outback, Part 2

Welcome Mates! I'm back today with three more slimline cards using the My Monthly Hero Arts Kit for April 2020. This kit sold out quickly.

Please check out the video using the link above or here.

Card 3: Has a Rainbow & Birthday Theme - Hoppy Birthday to Roo
I created a rainbow-colored panel using distress oxide inks: festive berries, ripe persimmon, fossilized amber, mowed lawn, blueprint sketch, seedless preserves, dusty concord, and chipped sapphire. I spritzed a little water on the panel to activate the ink to soften the color blend. Centered and repeat-stamped the Hoppy Birthday to Roo sentiment on the panel using the HA Intense black ink from the kit. Starting at the top I moved the cardstock down every 3/4ths of an inch and stamped until I reached the end. I cut a piece of 40lb Bazzill vellum to 4¼” wide by 8½” tall. I scored the vellum on the left side at ½” and folded and creased it. I placed my panel inside the vellum, face up and glued the back flap of the vellum to the backside of the panel. Next, I die cut the kangaroo from black cardstock and 5 balloons using the Sunny Studio balloon die using 3 different cardstock colors to form a balloon bouquet. I added colored twine to the base of the balloons to form balloon strings. Before affixing my kangaroo to the vellum layer of my panel I fashioned the balloon strings so that it appears that my kangaroo is holding the bouquet. I placed an acrylic block over it to let it dry a bit. Next, I trimmed the ends the balloon bouquet strings and added my finished panel to a 7½” x 8½” side folded card base.

Card 4: Shark Fest - G’DAY MATE

Features the background stencil from the kit. I started with 80# Neenah white cardstock cut at 3½” x 8¼”. I inked and blended ocean waves using salty ocean distress oxide ink and the bottom half of the stencil. I used the My Favorite Things mini cloud stencil along with tumbled glass distress oxide ink to create the clouds. Using the Hero Arts intense black ink from the kit, I stamped the mountains using a stamp from a previous Hero Arts kit. From that same kit I die-cut the smaller mountain to layer on top of the stamped mountain. I applied antistatic powder to a scrap of cardstock and used VersaFine onyx black pigment ink and clear embossing powder to heat emboss my sentiment. I stamped the birds using a stamp from a prior Hero Arts kit using the intense black ink. While the panel was drying I die-cut both the great white shark and the reef shark from the kit twice. I affixed the shark die-cuts to the panel “in the blue ocean area” with craft tacky glue and added the card panel to a black, 110lb, 7½” x 8½” side folded card base.  This left a black border around the finished card.

Card 5: BEAUT ~ Aussie You Soon - G’DAY MATE

Features the beautiful, Hero Arts Tropical Foliage Bold Prints background stamp. I started with a black slimline panel measuring 3¾” x 8½”. Using Hero Arts unicorn white pigment ink I stamped the background stamp and set the panel aside to dry. I taped three progressive-sized Scrapbook.com square dies together to form my design. I used three different size squares 1½, 2, and 2½ inches. I layer my black panel with a white piece of Neenah cardstock about the same size and die-cut the design. I started first designing the smallest white square. I used the stencil from the kit to color a little piece of sky and the sun portion of the stencil. I used dusty concord and fossilized amber distress oxide inks to blend a small portion of the sky. After the panel dried I heat embossed the sentiment “BEAUT” on the square. Next, on the middle square I blended the dusty concord and fossilized amber distress oxide inks to form more sky. Then, using the intense black ink and a branch stamp from a past kit, I stamped the branch of leaves and the cockatoo. Moving to the last, larger square, I used mowed lawn distress oxide ink to stamp the palm tree from the kit. I used dusty concord distress oxide ink and blended with chipped sapphire distress oxide ink to continue the skyline. Using vintage photo distress oxide ink I colored the ground brown. I stamped the dingo using intense black ink. Using craft tacky glue I affixed the black die-cut squares behind the colored and stamped squares and trimmed about 1/8th” off the sides of each square. I affixed the black panel to a black, 110lb, 7½” x 8½” side folded card base.

The finished cards measures 3¾”x 8½ “and fit into a standard #9 business envelope or create your own matching envelopes using my DIY Slimline Card Envelope tutorial! Also, if you missed Part 1 of this series please check out that video. I’ll link both videos below.

Please leave your questions below.  I’m happy to answer them. Soon I’ll feature the May 2020 MMH Kit so stay tuned.  I received my shipment yesterday.

That’s it for today! I’ll be back soon with more inspiration! Until next time. Good day mates!

Hero Arts ~ MMH KIT ~ APRIL 2020 - Australian Outback, Part 1

Welcome Mates! Today I’m featuring two slimline cards I made with the My Monthly Hero Arts Kit for April 2020. This month’s Hero Arts Kit has the flair of the Australian Outback and has a ton stamps and dies of cooI animals, sea life, greenery, a likeness of the infamous Ayers Rock, and lots of Aussie sentiments!  It also has a full-sized Hero Arts Intense Black ink pad, a beautiful background stencil and some cherry and birch wood cardstock.  This kit has sold out.

*Check out my super easy DIY Slimline Card Envelope Tutorial: https://youtu.be/m6uqOh4FWI0

Card #1: Have An Auss-ome Day
This card features the beautiful background stencil from the kit. I started the first card with an 80# Neenah white cardstock panel. I used Fossilized Amber distress oxide ink for the sky portion of the stencil and Vintage Photo distress oxide ink for the land area of the stencil. I used an ink blending brush to fade out the color of the sky and sun a bit more to tint the white areas.  Next, I stamped the kangaroo paw plant using a brown die ink.  I staggered the stamping in a triangular pattern and stamped the plant all over the bottom of the panel alternating as I stamped. I stamped the Ayers Rock on the panel in Barn Door distress oxide ink three times but didn’t like the bottom of that image because of the brown ink so decide to stamp again and die cut it. I trimmed the ends of the Ayers Rock die cut and affixed it to the panel on top of the stamped image. I then die cut the three kangaroos from black cardstock .Next, I applied  antistatic powder to a scrap of black cardstock . I used Hero Arts White Unicorn Pigment ink and clear embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment “Have An Auss-ome Day”. Then I added the sentiment strip to the panel just under Ayers Rock just a little left of center.  I affixed the kangaroos to the panel using craft tacky glue. There’s papa kangaroo, mama kangaroo looking back to make sure baby joey isn’t straying too far behind. Next, I placed acrylic block on top of the roos to let them dry a bit. Lastly, I added the card panel to a white 7½” x 8½” scored and folded in half~ side folded card base.

Card #2: Aussie You Soon
This slimline care features the beautiful Hero Arts Tropical Foliage Bold Prints background stamp. I started with a light green colored cardstock panel, stamped the foliage background using Mowed Lawn distress oxide ink. Next I used a dark green colored cardstock (cut 3¾” x 3½”), stamped the background leaves using Hero Arts Unicorn White Pigment ink.  I let the ink dry on both.  I used craft tacky glue to adhere the dark green cardstock to the card panel. I then cut a 1-inch wide piece of the cherrywood cardstock that came in the kit. Then I used craft tacky glue to affix the sentiment strip to the cardstock to cover where the two greens meet (should have stamped the sentiment first J). I used the Hero Arts Intense Black Ink that came in the kit and stamped the sentiment “Aussie You Soon”. Lastly, I die cut the two koalas from black cardstock and affixed them on either side of the sentiment using craft glue.  I added the card panel to a white 7½” x 8½” scored and folded in half~ side folded card base.

Here's another look at both cards.  Be sure to check out my video.

That’s it for today! I’ll be back soon with more cards from this Auss-ome Aussie kit!
